A Person-Centered Approach
to Work-Life Balance

April 22, 2006

Union League Club
38 East 37th Street (at Park Avenue)
New York, NY 10016

Work, family life, and cultural development all play critical roles in achieving individual human potential. Demands for increased productivity, changing demographics, and expectations that persons will remain longer in the workplace have all contributed to increasing pressures on people from all walks of life to fulfill a variety of obligations that often appear to be competing. Do current work-life policies go far enough? Do people-first policies decrease or increase employee productivity? How can each person set goals that will integrate their personal and professional responsibilities rather than living in a constant state of tension?

The conference speakers explored the historical basis for the current work environment, and discuss the impact that work-life tensions have on society at large. Innovative approaches were presented that went beyond short-term solutions. Conference participants had an opportunity to share experiences in an interactive workshop that provided tools to maximize productivity in a way complementary to bodily, mental, and emotional health.

Murray Hill Institute seeks to understand and address the varied needs of professional women and university students. Through its conferences, MHI explores and promotes an eminently positive feminism. The programs sponsored by MHI are inspired by the thought and work of St. Josemaría Escrivá, founder of Opus Dei, a personal Prelature of the Catholic Church.
